The town of Jasper is a peaceful and scenic destination within Jasper National Park, and is surrounded by almost eleven thousand square kilometers of wilderness. Here are some of our top tips, hand-picked to give you a good cross-section of the most popular activities in the area:
- Jasper Skytram: Start at the bottom with a meal on the BBQ deck, and dine al fresco in the fresh mountain air before you ascend to elevations of over twenty two hundred meters. Enjoy the views, explore and hike the mountain trails, and work up an appetite before dining at the Treeline Restaurant where you might have an elk burger or a bison burger made from locally sourced game.
- Maligne Lake: one of the most photographed lakes on the planet, you will probably never see a lake that is quite this shade of blue. The glacial waters are generally considered too cold to swim, but there are plenty of activities both on land and in the water that will allow visitors to enjoy the stunning beauty: hiking, cycling, fishing and canoeing are all popular, as are boat cruises and fishing tours. Dine or enjoy high tea at the Maligne Lake Chalet, or take a cruise to Spirit Island.
- Glacier Skywalk: About an hour’s drive from the town of Jasper down the scenic Icefields Parkway, the skywalk is a four hundred meter walkway that extends out over the Sunwapta Valley within Jasper National Park. You will pass by the breathtaking Athabasca Falls as well as experiencing views of over one hundred glaciers along the way, making for a unique and scenic mountain experience.
