Edmonton and Jasper Self-Drive

Holiday Reference: 16459

A city normally only featured in the financial section – rather than the travel section of the paper – Edmonton is a vibrant cityscape that is perfect for the young at heart. This electric city has a lot more to offer than as a stopover on the way to Jasper. Edmonton can be your gateway into the province of Alberta and offers a host of entertainment options to satisfy any taste.

Here is just a taste of what you can get up to in Edmonton - with the added bonus of a stay in Jasper to explore its breath-taking surroundings.

Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Edmonton

After arriving in Edmonton, pick up your rental car and check in to your hotel for the night. Once you are settled in, explore the local and pick out a restaurant for dinner. We suggest Meat, for the chance to share delicious meat platters from a local smokehouse.

Day 2: Drive to Jasper

Today you will jump in your car and head for Jasper, a drive that will take approximately 4 hours. Make sure you take time to stop at the picturesque viewpoints along the way – we suggest you unwind with a dip in the Miette Hot Springs.  Head into Jasper and check in at BW Jasper Inn.  Explore the local area before grabbing some dinner - why not try Evil Dave's Grill, one of Jasper’s most famous eateries?

Day 3: Jasper National Park

Today is yours to immerse yourself in the wonders of Jasper National Park.  There are options to suit everyone, from hiking, biking and climbing to a more leisurely walk along one of the many mountain paths.  After all that outdoor activity, you certainly deserve a large delicious dinner – we suggest the home cooked comfort food available at Jasper's Pizza Place or the Whistle Stop Pub.

Day 4: Drive back to Edmonton

Today you will drive back to Edmonton at your leisure – we suggest you stop in either Hinton or Edson for some well-needed sustenance on your journey. This afternoon, take a guided tour and learn all about the Ukrainian background of Edmonton. Why not continue the theme and have an authentic Ukrainian dinner at Uncle Ed's?

Day 5: Full day in Edmonton

Today is your final full day in Edmonton, so we recommend you explore the West End, a quirky anecdote to the West Edmonton Mall.  It is home to art galleries, great bakeries and some renowned locally owned restaurants.  Then head out to the West Edmonton Mall, the largest of its kind in North America – it really needs to be seen to be believed.

Day 6: Return to the UK

Today, you will wave goodbye to your whirlwind Canadian adventure as you return your rental car and head to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
