Located between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia, and within the border of the world-renowned Broughton Archipelago Marine Park, Farewell Harbour is a beautiful protected lodge that is the perfect base for a wildlife-watching adventure. Situated along the famed Inside Passage route to Alaska, the lodge is sheltered in an inlet on the edge of the Archipelago. This outstanding itinerary allows you to get up close to Canada’s most impressive wildlife, with full-day excursions in search of Grizzly Bears and Orca Whales.

Depart Alder Bay for a scenic transfer to the lodge where you will be met by the staff at the dock. After check in you will receive a welcome orientation with appetizers. After settling into your accommodation, join an afternoon tour in search of marine wildlife in the waters of the famous Johnstone Strait and Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. Return to the lodge by for some time to relax before a buffet dinner at 7pm, followed by next day activity briefing. The evening presentation will be at 8pm on the coastal ecology of the area.
After a delicious hearty breakfast, you are all set for your first full-day adventure to one of the main Grizzly Bear viewing estuaries! This bear viewing tour will takes us to one of the main grizzly viewing estuaries, where you will observe these majestic creatures either from a zodiac or on foot depending on the tide. Return to the lodge after your day of adventure for a buffet dinner. Tonight’s evening presentation will be on either the Great Bear Rainforest, Bears or First Nations culture.
Today you have the choice of another bear viewing safari, or a more extensive exploration of the rich waters of Johnstone Strait and the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. Orcas typically return to these waters in mid-July, although Humpbacks and other marine life can often be seen in May and June. Keep your camera on-hand – the sight of breaching whales is one that you will want to capture forever! Return to the lodge for dinner, and then why not relax with a drink on the deck and take in the ocean views?
Today you have a choice of either a short morning sea kayak excursion in the protected crystalline waters near Farewell Harbour Lodge, a marine excursion, or a guided interpretive rainforest hike to catch some last glimpses of Canada’s impressive wildlife. Your holiday will come to an end as you return to the lodge for your transfer back to Alder Bay.
