By the time you wake this morning, the train will have just departed Kamloops to begin a day travelling towards the Canadian Rockies and Jasper. Enjoy breakfast (included) while surrounded by dramatic scenery as you follow the banks of the North Thompson River through the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Around lunch time the ‘Canadian’ begins its passage into the Rockies with views of snow-capped peaks, the thundering Pyramid Falls and the expansive glaciers of the Albreda Icefields. Gaze in awe as you pass by Mount Robson, which at 3,954m is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. You will arrive in Jasper at 4.00pm and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore this unique mountain community.
Experience the wonders of Maligne Canyon from the ground up! The canyon has withstood 10,000 years of erosion and has created a 50m gorge. Certified guides will lead you in a small group along the frozen canyon floor and its ice-clad limestone walls. Super soles and winter boots will keep guests warm and secure as they explore this paradise of rock and ice.
Today you will travel south along the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise. This spectacular drive through glacier country features massive snow covered mountains, frozen waterfalls and broad-reaching valleys. Included this evening is an enchanting 40-minute sleigh ride that takes place alongside the lake. This is the perfect time to cosy up with your loved ones and make some unforgettable memories.
Depart Lake Louise mid-morning for a short drive to Banff via the scenic Bow Valley, with plenty of stops for photo opportunities along the way. The rest of the day is yours at leisure to enjoy this iconic mountain hamlet. Walk one of the many trails or end your day by taking a leisurely dip in the world-famous Hot Springs.
Today you will enjoy a free day in Canada’s premier winter resort. There are plenty of options, including: skiing or boarding in one of the 3 ski resorts in the area (not included), visit the luxurious spa at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel (not included) or browsing one of the many shops to buy some local souvenirs to enjoy long after your trip comes to an end. Dine tonight in one of Banff’s high-end restaurants and enjoy the panoramic mountain vistas around you.
This morning is free to squeeze in any of Banff’s remaining sights before your scheduled coach to Calgary departs at around midday. Following the Trans-Canada Highway, you will depart the Rocky Mountains and drive deep into the Great Central Plains that roll to the east and extend as far south as Mexico. This is ‘cattle ranching country’ and the breadbasket of Canada. Arrive at Calgary Airport to take your return flight to the UK, or into downtown Calgary to continue your exploration of this great nation.
