Begin your amazing journey in the vibrant city of Vancouver; the city of sea and mountains. There is so much to explore here, your days will just fly by. After three days, you’ll be ready for your adventure in the Yukon, one of Canada’s northern territories. Pick up your motorhome and enjoy everything the great outdoors has to offer from Whitehorse, through northern British Columbia to Edmonton, finally ending up in Calgary before you head on back home.
Upon arrival into Vancouver Airport, make your way independently to you overnight hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Over the next 2 days you can choose to relax or go out and about to discover Vancouver. Make sure you visit all the wonderful highlights such as English Bay, Granville Island Market with its artisan shops. Why not catch a ride on the Aquabus for a scenic tour, or take a coffee break at one of the many coffee shops sprinkled throughout the city?
Today you will check out of your Vancouver hotel and make your way independently to Vancouver Airport for your flight to Whitehorse the capital of The Yukon where you will stay overnight before collecting your Motorhome tomorrow. Remainder of the day is at leisure.
This morning you will collect you Motorhome and head east along the Alaska Highway 1 towards Watson Lake.
Situated in the rolling hills of southeast Yukon Watson Lake offers many ways to enjoy the great outdoors. Choose from quiet walking trail, fishing, white water canoeing or horseback riding, this is the place to do it. Stop by the Visitors Centre.
Today you will head southeast from Fort Nelson to Watson Lake to Fort Nelson which is surely the most scenic part of the Alaska Highway.
Fort Nelson named after Admiral Nelson was established as a fur trading post in 1805, and the community came into more prominence after the Alaska Highway was completed. You will find thousands of kilometres of rivers, dotted by hundreds of lakes and crowned by the majestic Rocky Mountains, the area surrounding Fort Nelson is an outdoor enthusiasts delight.
Head south today on highway 97 enroute to Fort St. John situated in north-eastern British Columbia. Not only is Fort St John the largest city in British Columbia situated along the Alaska Highway, but there is so much to see and do from History and Heritage, Parks and trails, bird watching and wildlife viewing along the Peace River.
Continue south on highway 97 and then onto highway 43 east towards Grand Prairie in northwest Alberta in an area known as Peace River Country.
While you’re in Grande Prairie, try not to trip over any skulls from the late Cretaceous period. The Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum can get you up to speed regarding the locals circa 75 million years ago. In summer, make time for a local festival or agricultural fair. Add a bag of mini doughnuts and you’re practically a local. Check out The Pipestone Creek bonebed which is rife with fossils. Join a tour and channel your inner palaeontologist. Get urban and check out Muskoseepi Park featuring more than a dozen kilometres of paved trails begging for a bike picnic.
This is a driving day. Head out early so you can get to Edmonton around lunch time. Find a campground not far from the West Edmonton Mall, North America’s largest shopping centre; a great place to spend the afternoon. Shop, play and dine from a staggering amount of options.
Spend a day in Edmonton. Choose from over 90 different activities: food tours, cycle tours, distillery visits, art galleries, gardens, sporting events, you can even try your hand at axe throwing.
Not the most scenic drive, so head out early so you can get to the National Park and begin enjoying the magnificent scenery of the Rocky Mountains.
Spend the day and night again in the park. Beautiful for hiking, kayaking and just enjoying the absolute peace and quiet. Over the two days you can choose from Athabasca Falls - Sunwapta Falls - Maligne Canyon – Maligne- Lake - Pyramid Lake - Patricia Lake - Jasper SkyTram – Whistlers Mountain - Athabasca Glacier and Glacier Skywalk - Downtown Jasper - Jasper Planetarium
Today you will experience the one of the world’s most scenic mountain drives, the Icefields Parkway. The route is approximately 287 kms and should take between 3 and 4 hours depending on traffic and wildlife – yes, you could see wildlife everywhere. To truly experience every magnificent turn and breath-taking view, this drive could take you double that! Take the time to explore every mile.
Short drive today to Banff National Park. Over the next two days, explore the park and downtown Banff. You have a plethora of options including hot springs, gondola ride, caving, golf and much more. Don’t forget to hit some of the amazing food and beverage options.
Head on in to Calgary and explore the area. Calgary is a cosmopolitan city and has much to offer. Try some great Alberta beef while you’re here.
Enjoy the morning before you drop off your motorhome. Remember to bank on about 2 hours. Take a taxi to your airport hotel for your overnight.
