Yukon River Canoe Adventure
Holiday Ref: 16432
During this Yukon River canoe trip, you will retrace part of the iconic Klondike Gold Rush route. You will camp on the banks of the Yukon River in the authentic northern wilderness and explore the gold rush relics on the way. More than history thrives along this river. Watch the shores for wolves, moose, and bears. Look at the sky for bald eagles, falcons, and hawks. Watch the waters, too - they are home to Canadian beaver and a world‐famous salmon run. If you are looking for a river that has it all, you can’t do better than the Yukon River. On this canoe trip with your experienced guide, you will experience everything the Yukon River has to offer, from historic sites and wildlife sightings to wilderness camping and delicious food cooked and served on the river banks. You don’t have to be an expert paddler to enjoy a trip down the Yukon River.
After your arrival at Erik Nielsen International Airport at Whitehorse., We’ll welcome you and bring you to your downtown hotel. In the evening your guide will meet you and explain the details and preparations for canoeing the Yukon River, including advice on packing your dry bags.
In the morning you will be driven to Deep Creek at the shore of Lake Laberge, where your canoe adventure will start. After lunch, paddle the northern part of Lake Laberge (± 24 kilometres). Upon arrival at the first campsite on the shore of the lake, make camp and prepare dinner. You will have no problem falling asleep in the quiet wilderness after such an exhilarating day.
This morning you will get up early again for breakfast and to get ready for the next part of your journey. Thanks to the steady current of the Yukon River, you reach your daily goals without a problem, and en route stops will be made at various historic sites. The fast currents of the Yukon River take you through deep impenetrable brush and forest; however, with some luck, you might spot moose, bears, lynx, or wolves, and often you catch sight of beavers and bald eagle. The fish we try to catch can provide variety on the daily menu. You’ll have the opportunity to learn a few new tricks of wilderness survival. This trip includes a plan for one or two backcountry hikes, during which you will have the opportunity to get a real impression of the Yukon wilderness and explore this vast northern land.
Late in the morning, you will arrive in Carmacks, where your canoe trip comes to an end. From here you will be driven back to Whitehorse, where you will appreciate a hot shower or bath and a hearty meal in one of the many restaurants! The evening is at your leisure.
Today your adventure ends with a transfer back to the airport.
